About the Chicken Hat Plays: The night before, eight writers draw their prompts from hats full of suggestions - who, what, and where - and go home to write a script. Eight directors and a bunch of actors show up in the morning. Each director draws a script from a hat, then a cast from a hat, and together they all go away to rehearse. The day is spent memorizing lines, finding costumes and props, and staging the show. That night, the audience enjoys eight original world premiere plays from the area’s bravest theatrical artists! All of the plays have a hilarious special gimmick, such as a common line or cameo.

About the Event: The St. Louis County Rescue Squad - a group of local volunteers who assist the sheriff's department in wilderness search and rescue, boat and water safety, and first aid and public safety - hold a Rescue Scramble twice a year, where the group stays overnight on a Saturday to practice rescue situations and drills. Actors are needed to play the roles of victims (anywhere between 10 and 20 actors would be ideal). No prior acting experience is necessary. On the evening of the scramble, actors will be given scripts with their scenes, characters, and assigned injuries. Actors and members of the Rescue Squad will be simulating real rescue scenarios! Makeup, prosthetics, and food will be provided. This is a fantastic, fun, and exciting evening of volunteerism that also supports a group of heroes in our own local community!

Notes: No preparation necessary. Auditions will consist of cold-reading from the script and singing portions of Cheryl's songs from the musical.
Show Dates: October 18-20 and 25-27, 2012.
About the Role of Cheryl: Female, aged 18-30 years. Cheryl is the prude and innocent little sister of Ash. She's apprehensive about the trip to the cabin in the first place, but plans to spend her time baking and reading. After being ferociously attacked by evil trees in the woods, Cheryl is the first to become a Candarian Demon, her sweet demeanour flipping into one of a scathing, crude, cellar-dwelling deadite. The role requires an actress who can play both sides of Cheryl and strongly sing rock-n-roll-styled alto lines.
About the Play: Based on Sam Raimi's 80s cult classic films, Evil Dead tells the tale of five college kids who travel to a cabin in the woods and accidentally unleash an evil force. And although it may sound like a horror, it's not! The songs are hilariously campy and the show is bursting with more farce than a Monty Python skit. Evil Dead: The Musical unearths the old familiar story: boy and friends take a weekend getaway at an abandoned cabin, boy expects to get lucky, boy unleashes ancient evil spirit, friends turn into Candarian Demons, boy fights until dawn to survive. As musical mayhem descends upon this sleepover in the woods, "camp" takes on a whole new meaning with uproarious numbers like "All the Men in My Life Keep Getting Killed by Candarian Demons," "Look Who's Evil Now," and "Do the Necronomicon."
