Add Comment Well, good Rubber Chicken blog readers, it seems I am woefully behind on this blog. I promise to fix that if you promise to keep checking in. Deal? Deal. March found us doing another version of the Chicken Hat Plays. I've been producing this type of kamikaze theater for nearly ten years, and I am always amazed by the talent and creativity that can be squeezed out of 8 writers, 8 directors, and a bunch of actors when they're under pressure to write, rehearse, and perform 8 original one-act plays in 24 hours. The highlights this time around include: 1) Chicken Hat veterans like Luke Moravec and Greg J. Anderson nailing silly characters in record time, to give the new folks a little less anxiety. 2) The aforementioned new folks! Jeremy Churchill, Nick Allard, Myke Dixon, Simon Van Vactor-Lee, Aaron Jordan-Peterson, Alex Schmuck, James Walsh, Colleen Biskey, Kendra Carlson, Laura Grieme, Lacy Habdas, Kyra Helberg, Ashley Keller, Cathy Podeszwa, Kay Rieck, Michelle Tesarek, and Elina Walchuk. Welcome to the theater jungle, all. 3) I can never hear "Stronger" by Kelly Clarkson anymore without thinking of a bouncing, singing orange. Another brilliant script by Lawrance Bernabo. 4) The space! Harbor City International School Theater is a fantastic, versatile space in downtown Duluth. If you haven't been in there to see a show by Emily Parr and her tremendous students, you need to. Hey, I know! Come and see the next go-round of The Chicken Hat Plays! Saturday, August 25. Oh, and don't do this... |
